Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Keletsositse Olebile to the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective July 1st, 2018. Mr Olebile has been Acting Chief Executive Officer since February 2018 and held the substantive position of Chief Operations Officer during the same period.
The Board has over time conducted a rigorous selection process in which both external and internal candidates have been assessed for the role. We are pleased that this has resulted in the selection of an internal candidate, with a detailed understanding of BITC, its vision, and long-term strategy.
Mr Olebile recently led the formulation of the BITC five-year strategic plan, (2018 – 2023) which came into effect on the 1st of April 2018. As the lead national investment and trade promotion agency we are confident that with his proven leadership skills, and unique experience in investment and trade promotion, he will be able to lead the institution to a new performance trajectory. His role will include, being the lead advocate for a competitive and attractive investment climate in Botswana, facilitation of both domestic and foreign sourced investments, provision of aftercare services for companies doing business in Botswana, facilitation of regional expansions by Botswana based companies, and facilitation of Botswana goods and services into diversified export markets. Of great importance within his role is the national image building, and global awareness creation about Botswana through the Brand Botswana portfolio.
Mr Olebile joined BITC at its inception in April 2012 as Executive Director, Strategy and Competitiveness, where he was responsible for Economic and Market Research, Corporate Strategy Management, Corporate Performance Monitoring, and Records & Information Management. He has previously served at several reputable institutions including Bank of Botswana as Banking and Currency Supervisor, the University of Botswana as Assistant Manager Financial Services, African Alliance International as Unit Trust Administrator, Letshego as General
Manager of the Insurance Subsidiary, Legal Guard, Barclays Bank of Botswana as Strategy and Planning Manager, and Botswana International Financial Services Centre (IFSC), as Strategy and Research Executive. He has been responsible for coordination of the financial services cluster development activities in Botswana, including the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) revitalization project. In July and September 2017, working with a team from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MFED) and Botswana Unified Revenue Services, he presented Botswana’s submissions to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Forum on Harmful Tax Practices (FHTP), where the team successfully presented Botswana’s level of compliance with Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) standards, and defended the country from being labelled a Harmful Tax Jurisdiction or Tax Haven. Mr. Olebile currently serves as Deputy Board Chairperson for SPEDU (Pty) Ltd), and Board Member for the Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority (NBFIRA).
